Freefall

Alexandra fell through the airy, purple void,
but she seemed completely unfazed by her odd situation.

As part of my sanity routine during the pandemic lockdown, I drew faces with crayons each evening before lights out. On that evening, I almost didn’t attempt any crayon sketching–I was so tired. But I’m glad I did anyway, because–instead of faces and completely unexpectedly–this little girl happened.

And I knew I had to make a place for her. She draws me in. Partly I admire her utter calm. But also I’m concerned by it.
